Multan Sultans

PSL’s newest team is Multan Sultans, worth $41.6 million. Multan Sultans is the 6th team to be included for PSL 3rd edition 2018. The third edition of the Pakistan Super League will see the addition of Multan Sultans as the sixth team in the competition. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made this announcement with respect to the 2018 PSL that will be played around February next year. The PSL schedule for the 2018 edition will be released later this year. Multan owners will also announce their team name soon enough although news is out that it may be named Multan Sultans.

It will now be interesting to see how will the PSL Draft go given the inclusion of this sixth side. A new squad will obviously be named, which means other teams might have to release a few players back to their draft pool, that will be announced before the start of the PSL Draft. The sixth team will be allowed to pick around 10 players from the various categories; players who are released by the other five teams. As a result they will enter the PSL Draft on a level-playing field as the rest of the five teams.

The introduction  Multan Sultans In PSL 2018 will add to the existing competition but it could also send the other teams into bit of a scurry as PSL 2018 Multan Sultans look to get themselves going with a reasonably strong squad of players.  They looked to have done a good job in bringing in Shoaib Malik before the Draft and he will be the 1st skipper of the side, leading a new team with penalty of experience and also in sublime form. What makes it even better for Shoaib Malik is that he has two senior cricketers with him, Kieron Pollard, who has played T20 cricket world over and Kumar Sangakkara, a legend of the game.

Fast bowler Sohail Tanveer joins him as well as he looks to continue delivering on his excellent T20 form while Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Irfan Khan and Kashif Bhatti will all want to deliver the goods for the side as they look to break into the Pakistani side.

During the Draft, the Multan Sultans’ first pick was Imran Tahir and that was followed by middle-order batsman Darren Bravo. What the Sultans would be ruing was to not get an early pick or two but in Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Abbas and Nic Pooran, they have a core of a side which could surprise a few.

Abdullah Shafiq and Saif Badar were their Emerging players while the Supplementary players are Hardus Viljoen, Umar Gul, Umar Siddiq and Ross Whitele, who might all feature at some or the other point in time during the tournament.

Wasim Akram joined the Multan Sultan squad 2018 as the cricket operations director of the side and Tom Moody joins the team as their head coach.

The Schon Group won the rights to own the sixth team, which will be based in Multan, joining the Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings and Islamabad United. The Sultans will begin the compaing for PSL 2018 against Peshawar Zalmi. PSL congratulated the company after they agreed to pay $5.2 m per year to join the new team.
